Can you explain the credentials of a Nurse Practitioner?

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) must first be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. Additional education and clinical training is also required through a Master’s Degree program.

Nurse Practitioners can receive certification in many specialty areas. Our office has an experienced Nurse Practitioner on staff. Nancy Mattoni has elected to receive specialty training in the areas of adolescent & women’s health. She is qualified and certified to treat the majority of patient’s needs. In addition to directly treating patients, Nurse Practitioners take an active role in promoting preventative medicine and take a holistic approach to health care. Nurse Practitioners can take medical histories and perform physical examinations, diagnose acute and chronic medical problems and provide routine care. In addition, they routinely order and interpret laboratory tests, x-rays and other diagnostic studies. Nurse Practitioners also prescribe treatment, prescribe medication as necessary and provide patients with continuing education relative to their medical needs.
